  * One of the most asked questions before a family photo session is "what do you suggest we wear?"  Coordinating family clothing can seem overwhelming, but it doesn't have to be.  First of all, the days of the matchy matchy are over.  That means no white shirts and blue jeans, no more khaki pants and blue shirts and nobody wearing the same color top.  I like to pick three or four coordinating colors that go well together.  To help you find coordinating colors for the season of your photo session, look up Pantone Colors with the season and year.  Each year, they predict the colors that are trending.

  * First I suggest going through your wardrobe and picking out one of your favorite articles of clothing.  If it happens to be a print such as a plaid, floral, or argyle which already contains multiple colors, then you may have just found your color palette.  Now that you have your color palette you can begin to build all the other outfits around it using the coordinating colors.  Don't forget about sweaters, jackets, scarves, jewelry and hair accessories to help bring in those colors.  It's those last little touches that pull the whole palette together.

  * Don't forget about your shoes  Shoes are shown in some pictures and do matter.  I know it can be expensive to buy new shoes for a family, so try removing scuffs and dirt to bring new life to your current shoes.  Try and choose shoes that are right with your outfit.

  *  There are a few colors I prefer to avoid.  Bright neon colors such as neon green, yellow and pink cast unwanted color on to the skin.  I like to avoid white for an entire group, it tends to wash out faces.  And remember those large logos on t shirts take the focus away from your face, and will keep the images from being timeless.
